Nadeo Revival Project (K,L,M tracks) - Discussion Thread24-Jun-2010 : Quote : Report

Current summary of all tracks and judges

Judging thread

Hey guys,

as you remember I had the idea for a new serie of Nadeo-like maps.
Here are the facts and rules for the project. Feel free to make your input (critics, suggestions, improvements). I want you to criticize, because it is a community project, not a competition where the founder directs the way. Everybody's welcome.

I thought of a complete series containing 30 tracks separated into three parts (K-tracks, L-tracks, M-tracks); thus maximum 30 mappers can join the project. That's a lot, I know, but I think that everybody can join with at least a small track. If there are more people who want to join feel free to create duo tracks, if there are less then a mapper might want to build two (or, if necessary, more) tracks.
The characters (K, L, M) define a certain level of difficulty, meaning the K-tracks being the "easiest" ones.

Everybody will get a number first. The number is used for the challenge order later and has got really no other meaning. A jury will separate the tracks into three difficulty classes (K, L and M). The tracks in each class are then ordered by increasing numbers. After the tracks are separated you can rename them into "[K,L,M] [0-9] by [author]".

Example:
Shanki joins in somewhen and gets #6 (guess, 5 others joined before him).
Rose Tattoo is the 15th one to get a number.
MagicTo thinks that being 23rd is cool.

When you have a number, save your track with the number and your user name. (e.g. "#15 RoseTattoo" or something like that)

Let's suppose #15 is a simple track; Rose wants everybody to finish it.
#23 is a hard one.
And Track #6 is something in between, intermediate.

The judges will sort the tracks by difficulty as they think it is right. If a track absolutely does not meet the "needs" of the Nadeo style, the author will be contacted to change it. But I don't think that this will be used, so don't care of it now.
The sub-orders (0-9 of each group) will also be specified by the judges by the order of the numbers.
If all tracks are ready and all tracks are sorted by difficulty, the row of numbers is simply splitted into 3 equal parts. I hope you can follow me.

So #15 belongs to the K-tracks. (being under the simple ones)
#23 will be put into the L-group. (Position is between 11th and 20th track)
#6 will receive an M-rating. (the rest that nobody really wants to drive^^)

Building Rules:
 - track maximum length
   - 1:10min with normal start
   - 1:40min with rounds start (2-5 rounds)
 - track minimum length
   - 0:20min with normal start
   - 0:15min with rounds start (for fastest round)
 - use style of Nadeo
   - less scenery in a static way, meaning as few as possible flying parts
   - try to keep the amount of coppers below 3000
   - "imperfection", if you want.
   - try to avoid pure fullspeed tracks.
   - use difficulty of Advanced (D-F), Expert (G-I), Pro (A) and Bonus (A, B) tracks

 - don't build:
   - LOL maps, uncontrollable transitions
   - too nasty/buggy transitions
   - No cuts, if you're not sure let somebody else check for it.

Examples for "no go" maps:
D-0, D-6, D-8, E-4, E-9, F-3, G-1, G-2, G-5, H-3, H-6, H-7, I-6
These maps are either too short and/or contain some stunts that are pretty lucky to perform "perfect".

Many things are allowed: hard-break turns, wallbang slides, loops in tech tracks, and so on...

Judges
Currently there is no established jury.
When lastly talking about it, there were the following ones:
- Shanki (confirmed)
- Remix (?)
- Roomer (confirmed)
- Sazu (confirmed)
- seaFs (that's me, and I'm in)
If you guys are still available, leave a message. If someone new wants to join, just raise your hand, you're welcome.

I also asked x-ROC Marvin and as it seems he's in, too
A total amount of 5 judges seems suitable for me, but that's not a strict rule, so if there are more it'll be fine.

That's all till now from my side.

Again:
If you think that something is missing or is not good in your eyes, raise your word!
It's a community project, not a competition.

Wonderful idea i'm in since i finished my exams \o/.
The thing i'm not sure about is : what is nadeo style ? the developers where doing those maps in certain conditions (trying to do finishable maps, discovering editor, etc.) that are -imo- hard to find after all the map we've played.
will be a nice and fun exercise anyway

let's rock

Well, with "Nadeo style" I just want to express that the tracks shouldn't be pure Fullspeed (OK, some exceptions exist, A-0 for instance) or loop-wallride desasters (e.g. Firebrand).
Defining Nadeo style is impossible, I think, but you all might know what I mean: simple tracks with this old flair. Maybe it is not the way you build or drive the track, but the feeling when you first see the track and think: "aahhh....the old times before driving the first tme online".
So in my opinion the biggest problem for some of us will be building as stupid as the developers did *kidding*

Hmm... I have thougth of it, but let's imitate 3D Realms: "When it's done"
This is a big bunch of tracks and to fill all slots it will take a while. So send the tracks whenever you're ready.
For those who can't live without a deadline: 31.09.2010. happy now?

AAh, before I forget: There is another question to answer:
- Using one new account for all tracks
- using the Nadeo account
- Everbody uploads with his/her own account

Hmm yes, Shanki. That could be pretty cool. An account for all these 30 Tracks... I would agree with that!

I've finished two tracks, too. But let's wait for more people to join in

Damn, I forgot so many things^^
If you want to add something with the Media tracker, do as you like. First I thought of restrictions, but what for? Simply do as you like it. Get some inspiration from the bonus tracks, as they all contain a small outro.
Hosting the tracks the first time
Before we upload the tracks to tm-exchange we need some way to swap the files for judging.
Tell me what you think is easier
- hosting the track files via a file hosting service (e.g. www.file-upload.net ) or
- uploading them to the final account and later deleting them again
The last version has the disadvantage that the tracks will exist at two times and you might be disappointed to see awards and replays and comments in the first version, but not in the final (renamed) version.

first version is better then...
maybe upload them to a permanent hoster, e.g. I (or someone else) could open an account at Mediafire or sth like that and everyone gets the account details here so that evrything is available for all the time for everyone...

Yes, hosting them on file-upload.net is better

I think, we should not create some wasteful Media Tracker works. In my opinion are some cameras for the intro and outro - like in TmnF - enough. That gives more unity with the other tracks.

I enter with pleasure in this community project .
Will be away from 03.07 to 25.07

Question : Is there a limited number of track to build by players ?

1)should we build a map that looks like an original nadeo one (like a remix) or a complete new one and we just keep the "spirit" of nadeo mapping ?
2) can a map be refused if it isn't enough "nadeo-ish" ?

and it looks like Dejavu is in too

@henk
well, there might be "K3", but not "K-3"

@kamyk
Nevermind, have fun in your "away time"^^ Currently it is supposed to add one track per mapper, because I realy hope that 30 users join in. If not, we simply draw straws who has to build another one If you have discrete thoughts about this case, let us now.

@Necroz
1) Catching up the "spirit" is totally fine, but if you are too uninspired you also can mix up different parts (which is, in the end, also catching up the spirit )
2) yep, I would like to have all judges an eye on this. So, if you build a supersmooth, extremely sophisticated map with beautiful overkilling scenery you won't have a chance to score here^^
And DejaVu said "yes" a couple of month ago. Let him decide now if he is still interested and has got time

When talking about DejaVu:
He asked if a Nadeo track has to be unsmooth. Hard to answer. In the end there is no really smooth Nadeo track, as we all know. So my advice for this topic is "build what you want", meaning just placing some parts as they might look good. Don't think too much about what you are building. Nadeo tracks have got a certain flow, but not this perfect flow we see in modern tracks. If there are parts or corners where you can't really slide, because you always have two wheels with black stripes after, just let it as it is. Imperfection is no real flaw, but appreciated.

If we need an author who has to build two or more "Nadeo-tracks" I would like to be the one (or one of them). I hope it's okay

as seafs said: we firstly wait until no more mapper get in here.
then we will choose mappers who will build a 2nd map.
